ABOUT CORGIS
Corgis are one of those rare breeds that seem to capture hearts the moment people see them. With their signature short legs, sturdy build, expressive faces, and cheerful personalities, they’re instantly recognizable and endlessly lovable. But beyond their adorable appearance, Corgis are intelligent, hardworking, loyal companions with a fascinating history and a personality that shines in every setting.
The breed comes in two main types: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. While they share many similarities, they also have distinct differences. Pembrokes are perhaps the more well-known of the two, thanks in part to their association with Queen Elizabeth II, who famously kept them throughout her life. Pembrokes typically have a slightly smaller, more refined frame, often with docked tails, while Cardigans have a longer body, rounded ears, and bushy tails. Both, however, are equally charming, spirited, and full of character.
Corgis were originally bred as herding dogs in Wales, working alongside farmers to move cattle and sheep. Their low stature gave them a unique advantage, allowing them to nip at the heels of livestock while dodging kicks. This herding instinct is still very much alive in modern Corgis, and you’ll often notice them trying to “herd” other pets, children, or even adults. It’s part of what makes them so playful and intelligent—they’re always thinking, always observing, and often trying to be part of the action.
Personality is where Corgis really shine. They are affectionate without being overly needy, smart without being unmanageable, and playful while still knowing how to relax. They love being included in family life and thrive when they’re part of daily activities, whether that means joining you for a walk, supervising chores, or curling up at your feet in the evening. Their intelligence makes them quick learners, though it also means they can be a little mischievous if not given enough mental stimulation. Training a Corgi requires consistency, patience, and a sense of humor, but the reward is a dog that is eager to please and quick to master new skills.
Corgis are also known for their strong voices. They like to bark—sometimes to alert, sometimes to play, and sometimes just because they feel like sharing their opinion. While this trait can be managed with training, it’s worth noting that Corgis often make excellent watchdogs because of their alert nature. They are protective of their families without being aggressive, and their confidence often makes them act larger than their size.
Health and care are important considerations for any breed, and Corgis are no exception. Because of their long backs and short legs, they are prone to back issues if they become overweight or are allowed to jump frequently from high places. Maintaining a healthy diet, providing regular exercise, and avoiding activities that strain their spine are all essential for keeping them strong and comfortable. They are also an energetic breed, so daily walks and playtime are a must. Without enough activity, a Corgi may become bored and find creative ways to entertain themselves, which often means chewing, digging, or other mischief.
Despite their energy, Corgis are surprisingly adaptable. They’re just as happy living in a suburban house with a yard as they are in a city apartment, provided they get enough exercise and attention. They love being near their people, and their small-to-medium size makes them versatile companions for many types of households.
Their coats are double-layered, with a thick undercoat and a longer, weather-resistant outer layer. This means Corgis do shed—a lot. Regular brushing helps manage the shedding and keeps their coats healthy and shiny. Bathing should be done as needed, but not too frequently, as it can strip the natural oils from their coat. Grooming also includes regular nail trims, ear cleaning, and dental care, all of which keep them feeling their best.
One of the most wonderful things about Corgis is how they form deep bonds with their families. They are known to be loyal, affectionate, and full of personality. Many Corgi owners describe them as dogs who make them laugh every day. Their expressive faces, quirky habits, and loving natures make them unforgettable companions. They often seem to have a sense of humor and a knack for knowing exactly how to brighten the mood.
Corgis also do well with children and other pets when socialized properly. Their playful yet gentle personalities make them excellent family dogs, though their herding instinct may come out in games and interactions. With guidance and training, they quickly learn how to balance that instinct with family life, making them wonderful additions to homes of all kinds.
Choosing a Corgi means choosing a dog who will be your companion through thick and thin. They are resilient, loving, and full of life. They’ll join you in adventures, comfort you in quiet moments, and bring laughter to your home in ways you never expected. For families who want a dog with charm, intelligence, and heart, a Corgi is truly one of a kind.
At Emma’s Corgi Home, we celebrate everything that makes this breed extraordinary. From their herding heritage to their modern role as beloved family companions, Corgis hold a special place in our hearts. Every puppy we raise carries that legacy of loyalty, intelligence, and joy, ready to bring it into the lives of the families who welcome them home.
What My People Say about Us
“From the very first conversation with Emma, I knew this was the right place for us. She answered all my nervous first-time puppy parent questions with patience and kindness, and when our Corgi, Milo, finally arrived, he was even more perfect than I imagined. It’s obvious he was raised with love before joining our family. Every morning when he greets us with his wagging tail, I silently thank Emma for the care she put into raising him.”

Jennifer Collins, Texas
“Bringing home Daisy from Emma’s Corgi Home has been one of the happiest experiences of my life. She arrived healthy, playful, and incredibly well socialized. From day one, Daisy acted like she already belonged with us. Emma’s updates along the way made us feel connected to Daisy even before she came home. I truly felt like I was part of her journey, not just a customer. That meant everything to us.”

Matthew Reynolds, Ohio
“Our family had dreamed of getting a Corgi for years, and when we finally found Emma’s Corgi Home, everything just felt right. Emma took the time to match us with a puppy that fit our lifestyle, and now Charlie is the heart of our home. He’s great with our kids, gentle with our cat, and always up for a game of fetch in the backyard. I can’t say enough about the integrity and warmth Emma brings to what she does.”
